Accident at Congonhas Airport may have been caused by brake failure

According to the statement Tropic Air, the company responsible for aircraft which skidded off the runway at Congonhas last Sunday (11), brake failure may have been the cause of the problem, pointed out by airplane pilots.

Also according to the Tropic Air, the aircraft had undergone maintenance on 1 November and never had any malfunction. The operation to remove it began on Tuesday.

A video from a security camera of a property across from the airport recorded the exact moment when the pilot tried to land, but the aircraft crashed on the lawn and the fence just stopped.

The jet is privately owned. Came from Florianópolis and touched down on the runway to assist 17h27, when the accident happened.

Michael Rumpf Gaail, 66, piloted the jet and remains hospitalized in the ICU of the hospital Santa Paula. He suffered head trauma, injury to the chest and lumbar spine, but did not require surgical intervention. According to Tropic Air, he isn’t in danger of dying.
